I'm Bored
Chris is in Houston today. I had a whole list of things that I was thinking of getting done today. Knitting, sewing, making a new logo that fits more on a business card...blah blah blah. Instead I am restless. I am cleaning. Yes, CLEANING. So far most of the downstairs is completely done. I've played with a dog. We've chased off a snake. We think. I've reskiened some yarn only to discover there are 14 knots in the skein (which is why I don't sell this kind any more!) I'm about to vacuum some more of the downstairs.
So the reason I am bored and restless? I think it lies in the fact that Chris is not here today. Usually we might go do something together or I'd have someone to talk to you or ...please name off a list of things. No today it is just me and the dogs and the cats.
Speaking of cats. I was at the petstore this morning. They let me into the store 10 minutes before the registers opened. It only took about 5 to find the things I needed. So I wandered over to where the SPCA has their cats for adoption. There were several that were probably 5 or 6 months old, two that looked about a 2 months old, and a solid black tomcat that was 4 years old. I didn't look at the kittens at all. This older fellow had my attention. He was a beautiful cat and his family gave him up because they traveled too much. Poor fellow. I wanted to bring him home. I really really did. But I think we've reached our maximum pet threshold here at casa crazy animal. So he is still there at the petstore, unless some other kind person decides to ignore the kittens and adopt an older cat.
Also on the animal front, we apparently have a snake to go with our bullfrogs. Just great. He was up on the porch this afternoon and I'm guessing he was why our cats were acting crazy last night. Any thoughts on ways to get rid of snakes? We do need to have someone go in and trim down the stuff at the forest edge so the weeds don't get to high and start encroaching. Other then that I'm not sure what to do.

it seemed everytime we would kill a snake at our old home 3 more appeared, you could not walk out the door without seeing them, but even garter snakes are extremely prolific and they don't have one at a time but usually lots like 40-50, They say snakes don't like owls, and house and garden stores sell fake ones, maybe that will help!!!
I was going to recommend the fake owl but I was beaten to the punch - they are sort of ugly though. I always feel bad for pets at the shelter but I can't have any - travel for work - it's still hard to leave them behind.
So I guess the snake is attracted to your bullfrogs as they may be dinner for him. Definitely keep the yard free of wood piles and brush as that's where they can hide.
Also, I just read somewhere that mothballs are a good repellent but since they are sweet (eew) your dogs may also be attracted to them. Then I read that Tiger Balm repelled another person's snake problem or a capsaicin spray with a bit of dish soap but when it rains you have to reapply it to the affected areas.
Good luck!
Aw, you do seem a little restless today. At least when you wake up this morning you'll have a clean house! That is always a good thing!
Could not handle snakes hanging around the house. I guess everything really is bigger in TX.
I used to use mothballs. You can toss them under to stairs/porch or where ever they might hid. I once had a black snake in my partial dirt basement. When I met it on the stairs going down to do laundry that was it! After we put the mothballs down on the dirt area never saw it in the house again
Snakes....why did it have to be snakes....Sorry I was watching Indiana Jones this weekend. Hmmm wish I could help out with that. I think my friend in FL uses mothballs but her dogs don't bother them for whatever reason
I want another kitty but Mr. Ace is so spoiled that I'm afraid it would break his heart...I often go by and see the cats up for adoption.
Oh, it is so hard to pass up a wonderful potential pet! But I know what you mean. With two dogs, two cats, two guinea pigs, two fish (and two kids!!), I think we're at maximum. Sigh... As for snakes, my general thought is that unless it's a rattler, I'd leave it -- they're good for getting rid of other unwanteds (gophers, rats, mice, etc)... (But I admit that's a philosophical preference; you're talking to the woman who suggested going out and buying a king snake rather than setting gopher traps.)
Don't kill the snake! You don't want to get rid of it, really, as his likely dinner is rodents, and trust me, you want those around your house less than you want snakes!
Unless it's got rattles on it's tail, I suppose.
Thank goodness I live in the city. No snakes up this way.
I also want to adopt every homeless older animal I see in the shelters too. Not to mention the advertisements for them as well. Just give all your kids a hug/pet and the adoptive urge will pass.
You have what, 2 cats & 2 dogs? Or did I mis-count?
I love my "alone" time when the hubby is out of town!
