knitting with cats made easier

A month or so ago I purchased a really nice bowl. I know you are so excited for me.

"WOW, a bowl, is this blog-worthy??!"

I love the pink, rose, and brown shading. I love the shape of it. I'm rather fond of the felt bottom that doesn't scratch my table or floor. I love the slits in the side. LOVE them. Why?

IMG_9541.JPG
Containment. Plain and simple. I like my yarn to stay put. There won't be any accidental rolling off the table. (No added dog hair fibers in my yarns!) There won't be any dogs that can eat yarn that accidentally rolled off the table and all the way across the room. The won't be any wondering what is snagging my yarn as some cat (or dog) steps on it or tries to eat/play with it. Yes knitting is far simpler.

I've seen a number of yarn barn things around. They look intriguing. Really they do. Check out Dee's (which are awesome - This link may not last forever, she likes to erase things...) But there is one little problem with them. The yarn is stuck in the barn until you finish. There isn't a way to get it out. I can't live like that.

"who me?"

I have CATS. Silly creatures that think that all fiber belongs solely to them and they are just loaning it to me. ha ha ha There is no way my project yarn can go through the hole and not be susceptible to small paws pulling it out from the ball. None! So no yarn barn for me. I prefer the removable kind.

I am now 42 repeats and a just a little less then a fourth of the yarn into the scarf. Not sure how long it will end up. I'm not sure I will use the whole ball. I was going to measure based on the unblocked length. I will block it but I know full well that once its gotten used a couple of times blocking tends to disappear some. Its got a lot more knitting days left. I was knitting last night and I'm pretty sure this is the slowest knit I've ever done. I haven't a clue why either! I just seem to slow down when I knit this. Which I suppose is not necessarily a bad thing.

[The bowl can be purchased from Knit Witch but not until the end of the month. They are revamping their ceramic studio and it won't be ready until the end of May. If you are interested in a bowl (for yarn or spinning), you can go check out the website and view sold bowls so you can get an idea of what styles they have had before. Mine I think would qualify as simple. It suits me just fine.]

Your yarn bowl is beautiful!!!

I thought about getting one of those, but I have a different issue. I would be afraid with all my KIP I would chip a ceramic/pottery bowl. But, it would be great for keeping at home. They are just so pretty!

What a great bowl! I love the colors, and the fact that you can unhook the yarn if, say, you wanted to go somewhere, or if (say) a cat was messing with it is most definitely an added bonus. Also, for me, if I can have ceramic rather than plastic, that's pretty much always the way I'll go.

Now that's a cool idea.

I too have yarn balls rolling all around, and my worst threat is Adam my grandson, he thinks yarn balls are for playing catch even when they are attached to a WIP.

I love the scarf. And the way the yarn matches the bowl. I may have to get a bowl--thx for the link. The scarf is very similar to Misty Garden from Scarf Style. I made a blue one--it is in my projects on ravelry--if you belong--I am luvtoknit there. Also thx so much for the comment on my grandaughter's prom. And I linked you in the sidebar on my blog if you don't mind--love your blog.
